2010 Armed Robbery and Murder Suspect Defended from Shaky Prosecution

In 2010, Thomas Jessie was shot and killed in the French Quarter of New Orleans during what investigators believed to be a failed armed robbery attempt. Due to the early morning hours, very little evidence of the crime could be collected but that did not stop the arrest of Donovan Carter. Now, Donovan Carter’s murder trial is unfolding, some six years later, with Attorney Gregory Carter (no relation) coming to his defense.

The prosecution is relying heavily on a shaky testimony from an alleged eyewitness who claims to have seen the shooting conducted by a man in a white hooded jacket. Police records show Donovan Cater was indeed arrested in a white hooded jacket, but early investigations did not find any gunpowder residue on his hands or face, where it can usually be found after discharging a weapon. Attorney Carter has been keen to attack the credibility of the prosecution’s evidence, stating that no man should be imprisoned for the rest of his life on assumptions alone.
